Thank You for Joining Us at the Geospatial Lab Tour

We had a fantastic experience at our Geospatial Lab Tour today! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first DALA site visit of 2025.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Yue Chun Chan (YC) for motivating us to explore the potential of spatial data. Your knowledge and passion truly made an impact! He introduced the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure Portal, which is free for sharing geospatial data and supports smart city initiatives. We encourage everyone to take advantage of spatial data in any of your projects. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gkvJsCBP

It was also wonderful to see our founding chairman Dr. Toa CHARM and fellows Jade Tin Hei Lee, Prof. Jacob Wai, Dr. Lana Lo, PuiShing LEE, Chris Au Young in attendance, as well as DALA members and some participants from the GS1 Hackathon.

Here are Dr Charm 5 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 from this insightful visit:

1. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐭𝐬
From addressing legislative questions to fostering collaboration across departments, consolidating data in one place drives analysis and *data-driven decision-making*. With tools, APIs, and cross-department cooperation, data magic happens beyond mere top-down mandates.

2. 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
Combining unrelated data like water usage, population density, virus spread, or accessibility trails on a map can reveal hypotheses and associations, solving social and business challenges.

3. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫
Standardizing data tagging for locations is *vital*. Common standards enable seamless cross-source analysis, paving the way for innovators to work their magic.

4. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 “𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭” 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭
“Common Spatial Data Infrastructure”CSDI is not easy to understand and socialize with others. YC coined a brilliant analogy: the “Data Supermarket”. Think of it as a place where ingredients (data) are curated for users and innovators to create diverse solutions for social and business needs. Simple yet powerful!

5. 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
The more data layers we overlay, the richer the insights and applications! If companies and citizens contribute securely and responsibly, we can turn innovative possibilities into realities.

Stay tuned for more, including site visits, forums, awards, training, knowledge articles, and more. Cheers to a future empowered by data and AI!
