Founding Chairman’s Message

I have worked in the data industry for over 30 years, starting as a technical specialist for a multinational database company in Silicon Valley. From the very beginning of my career, I recognized the power of data and have since pursued expertise in data warehousing, business intelligence, as well as the latest advancements in AI, big data, and machine learning.
However, for too long, many leaders and executives have held the belief that “data is not my job,” leaving IT teams to handle it. Fortunately, this mindset is changing in leading companies today, as they realize that a data-driven culture is essential for success in the digital era. These companies empower everyone in their organization to speak, think, and act on data, regardless of their role or technical background. This trend is not limited to tech companies, as traditional industry leaders are also catching up quickly.
Unfortunately, many companies in Hong Kong and other cities in Asia have yet to adopt this data-driven approach. That’s why my team and I at the Data Literacy Association (DaLa) are working to promote data literacy in Asia. We aim to empower more leaders and executives in Hong Kong and beyond with a high level of data literacy, encouraging them to incorporate data into their daily decision-making.
To achieve this goal, we will gather business and data leaders, start-ups, and consultants to share best practices and experiences for democratizing data literacy across all walks of life. I strongly encourage you to join our data literacy journey and become a data citizen, empowering yourself and those around you to make informed decisions based on data.
